There’s no need to advertise! All I do is a bit of networking. It amazes me every time my phone rings with a potential client who tells me he or she got my name off of the Find-a-ProAdvisor Website. I also belong to National Advisor Network (NAN) where there is also another awesome support team. I call for help and always get the best support. I think Intuit ® is a wonderful company and is so supportive of us. I have many, many clients I keep books for and also teach for the CEDF (Community Economic Development Fund) where new entrepreneurs learn QuickBooks while starting their new business. I have grown leaps and bounds, and see myself growing even more. I have now been working for myself for the last three years as a ProAdvisor and I keep asking myself, how did this happen to me? Becoming a ProAdvisor has been the best thing that ever happened to me.
She did, however, offer to let me keep the clients that I had actively been working with, so I figured, “What do I have to lose?” I had always dreamed of the chance to work for myself, but would this work for me? Then, in July 2010, a few days prior to celebrating my 50 th birthday, my boss called me and told me her husband lost his job and she could no longer afford to keep me on. In 2009, she asked me if I wanted to be certified she was willing to put up the cash for this to happen. She hired me to help her with her clients.
Over the next few years I changes jobs several more times until 2008, when I began working for a woman who was a QuickBooks ProAdvisor ®.

Back then, we had big teaching manuals that came with the program and I think I did a pretty good job figuring things out. I took and chance on QuickBooks 1995 (LOL) and basically taught myself the program. I was really only comfortable using the old One-Write system I was doing everything longhand and had only used one other DOS-type of program for bookkeeping. It was in the year 2000 that I was first introduced to QuickBooks ®. Since then, I have worked for many small businesses. However, working for the previous company gave me the start to work again as a part-time bookkeeper for another company I had found through a neighbor. I worked at his company for a few years and then left when I became a mother again and needed to take time to be with my new baby. I made him aware of this and he was willing to take a chance on me. I really had no experience in this field, except that I had taken some accounting classes in high school. When my son was about 6 months old I got a call from a former customer from the food company asking me if I wanted to be his bookkeeper. I left the position to be a stay-at-home mom – as many of us did back then. I stayed there for a few years, got married and had my first child. Then, at age 24, I was hired for an inside sales position at a food wholesaler. I didn’t know what I was going to do, so I stayed at home for a few years with my parents and worked retail jobs. I thought about teaching, but back in the late ‘70s, there were more teachers than there were jobs, so I figured, “why go there?” I went for a year and wasn’t really happy.
